03. wreck some shit but don't be dicks ooc
i'm not writing up prompts bc i'm a lazyass, but places to start: running into someone on your bike! long-running pokemon contest rivals stuck at the same table making poffins! lost in some god-forsaken cave and surrounded by zubats! challenging a gym! surprise, your childhood bff is a member of team plasma? who knows, go nuts.
as usual, drop top-levels with or without a starter, or let me know if you want someone in particular and i will provide!!

if you want kalos sprites btw this guy has them all here.

[ raised in and around snowpoint, masamune has recently toppled and replaced the existing gym leader in his hometown despite... a third of his team not being ice pokemon? he's well-known in the region as a balanced and talented trainer and battler but to anything besides a pokemon he's kind of a dick so if you think your character hates him you're probably right.

he and furuya are childhood friends but if you say furuya's name in front of him he gets grumpier than usual.

his signature pokemon is toru the ursaring, and the gym is technically ice, so his battle team is only the four ice-types from his team, which can be found below:

there's a smoochum at home that Loves Masamune but he kind of pretends that's not a thing, lmfao. can often be found in trees reading something or other with toru when he's not at the gym, temple or otherwise around town.

[The best place to learn to train, if you live in Sinnoh, is Snowpoint City. There really is no alternative, despite it being farflung and inhospitable in climate. Still, it's where Furuya got his start before it became clear that his passive approach to battling and nearly completely non-verbal relationship with his pokes wasn't going to win him any more friends.

He'd become fast friends with Masamune when he arrived at the trainer's school and they bonded over raising their bears; Furuya's Cubchoo and later Beartic would always be Ma-kun. Then the rumors started. Furuya's Beartic is an Ice Type but Masamune's Ursaring is Normal. Masamune must not want the gym leadership, or so people said. It couldn't have been further from the truth, but suddenly his fellow students would turn him down for battles, not wanting to encourage the kid with the bad habits as a leader in their community. When he felt the tension spreading to his relationship with Masamune, turning something he'd depended on into a rivalry, Furuya knew it was time to leave.

He also knows there's only one place in the world he wants to bring his Eevee back to for his evolution. Furuya's not sure if he wants to be able to get to and from the Ice Rock completely undetected or not, but he's sure word must have gotten north by now that there's a trainer with a Beartic that looks awfully familiar. In turn, he's heard about Masamune's success at the gym in Snowpoint City, but going all that way just to challenge him, just to see if things have changed... troublesome.]

it's not............... unlike their relationship

[ masamune doesn't pay attention to gossip, most of the time, which makes sense when easily a third of that gossip's about how the only person he doesn't immediately snap at any more is enjo or about the fact that he hasn't given a gym badge out in three months. but he's always paid a remarkable amount of attention to satoru furuya, so when gossip about a tall quiet trainer with a beartic and dark hair makes its way around the gym, he knows about it. he knows who it is before he even hears anything else, and judging from his attitude about it, so does everyone else.

furuya had left snowpoint (left him) behind, like a coward, when things got tough. masamune is a king on a cold mountaintop, and coming down off the mountain is an avalanche thundering down on anyone in the way. (except the old ladies bundled up in the town square, who have a better location on furuya by virtue of their massive and terrifying old biddy network and don't answer well to being shaken down, probably because at least three of them have changed his diapers.)

if furuya - if satoru - wants to get near the ice rock that bad, then so be it, but masamune is waiting for him, ursaring towering just behind him. the look on his face could melt an entire blizzard, by the looks of it.

[The weirdest part was Furuya never knew how much he both did and didn't want this until he got there. Of course he wanted to get to Sinnoh's Ice Rock, of course he wanted to see if he could come back there for good eventually, but he never thought he might have to get it by battling with Masamune.

It's a surprise, really. He hadn't even realized he was on his friend's radar that way. Furuya'd been so focused on the sense of rejection from the other students at the school that the fact that this could have been a part of his friendship with Masamune never even occurred to him. He'd just run from it instead, assuming Masamune (not Hongo anymore, not with this kind of distance) would turn away from him as well. Having him be the unofficial welcoming committee, then, is startling.

He wants this, though, and he wants to keep going north on 217 if he can. If it'll be permitted. Furuya comes toward the Ice Rock but stops, hands in his pockets, and regards Masamune. How will this begin?

His Beartic is less reserved, however, immediately starting to approach Masamune's Ursaring. It's been so long since they've seen each other, after all.]

Ma-kun. No.

[ he doesn't even need to say anything to toru - the ursaring's movements had mirrored furuya's beartic right at first, but he's always been sensitive to masamune's moods, and all it takes is a shift of his chin toward his oldest pokemon to still him.

he takes the lead instead. frowning, he looks furuya up and down. whatever he sees doesn't seem to please him, and the crease in his brow deepens.

You didn't think you'd get to come sneak around up here without me hearin' about it, did you?

[It's been a long time since Furuya felt himself under the weight of Masamune's judgment and, since that judgment's turned negative, it's just as unpleasant as he remembers. He's stronger now, though, and he squares his shoulders when Masamune frowns at him. When he answers, his tone is unimpressed. If someone had been willing to leave his gym for a little while, this could have happened a long time ago.]

No, but I didn't think you'd come out of Snowpoint to do anything about it.

[ so furuya's filled out that too-big frame with a little resolve, huh? the part of masamune that misses sitting elbow-to-elbow inside the gym with cubchoo and teddiursa sharing their laps is a little proud.

the part of masamune that judges trainers (and finds them wanting, nine times of ten) is also a little proud - of finally standing face-to-face with a challenger who doesn't cower.

if traveling helped him grow, then maybe it wasn't all bad. if he thinks of satoru as no one important, just another challenger, then - it'd be nice, if he could. but professionalism, when satoru furuya is across from him, has never quite been in his grasp.
]

Well, you won't stop by, so I thought I'd do it for you. And the town's got nothing to do with - this. [ he's avoiding saying it, isn't he? ] With you and me.

[ 'us' isn't the word he wants to use. there is no 'us', not any more. ] You want to use the Ice Rock. [ it's not a question. ]
staminaroll: (i want the applause the approval)

[There's something about the way Masamune answers that cuts closer than Furuya wants to admit. He can feel his expression change before he has a chance to school it. Most people probably wouldn't see the way his eyes get wider, the way his mouth softens. He knows Masamune will catch it, though, and while he knows he ought to feel the way he'd feel facing any other trainer--vulnerable, like he exposed himself somehow--instead Furuya feels more at ease.

There's nothing wrong with Masamune knowing he hit home with that comment as long as Furuya doesn't weaken because of it, and he has no intention of that happening.]

The world is bigger than that. I never said I wasn't coming back. [To Sinnoh. To Snowpoint. To they gym and Masamune.] I'm still not saying that.

[He just nods about the Ice Rock, though. Technically Masamune has no claim to it, but neither of them have any use for technicalities. Never have and certainly don't now.]
